Cryptography applications are well known to provide optimal characteristics for acceleration via Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). In the past we have implemented various encryption algorithms such as IDEA and KASUMI encryption, at over an order of magnitude speedup. Maxeler is collaborating with the Custom Computing group at Imperial College which designed the fastest Elliptic Curve Encryption FPGA system in the world, at 1150x speedup in terms of MB/s compared to best software.
